Chimney Repairs
|
Homestead Chimney Technicians are trained in all types of masonry and chimney repairs. They are able to completely restore/rebuild existing fireplaces and chimney systems or provide you with an entirely new system.
Firebox/Smoke Chamber repointing/rebuilding - The firebox and smoke chamber of your fireplace takes a great deal of abuse from heat. Any cracked or loose mortar or bricks should be replaced and any cracks in the smoke chamber area must be resurfaced and resealed with a special refractory-type mortar.
Chimney Top rebuilding - As a result of moisture absorption, the exterior masonry on your chimney becomes saturated. When the weather is cold, this moisture freezes, expands and causes the masonry to crack. Sometimes only the mortar joints crack requiring repointing. Often though, the entire chimney top needs to be removed and rebuilt.
Mortar Crown repair - This is the area at the very top of the chimney that seals the flue to the exterior brick. Many times cracks develop, allowing excessive moisture from rain, snow and ice to filter in and around the flues. This area must then be repaired to prevent excessive damage from occurring.
Damper repair or installation/upgrades - Dampers, when functioning properly, allow you to seal off the flue area. This prevents heat from escaping up the flue during the heating season and also prevents cold downdrafts from entering the home.
